Principal Investigators: David Meko, Leonid Agafonov, and Irina Panyushkina
Funding Agency: CRDF Global (Joint Russia-US research program)
Award Period: 04/01/2013-03/31/2015, with follow-up to 06/30/2016
The long version of the title is "Millennial context for recent hydroclimatic changes in Ob River basin from tree
rings". A main objective of this study is long-term information on variability of Ob River, Siberia, inflow to the Arctic Ocean. Additional funding was obtained after 03/31/2015 to fund a trip to Russia by Panyushkina and a trip to LTRR by Agafonov to develop journal articles
Research Topics
- Collect tree-ring samples along Ob River, and develop width chronologies from living trees
- Collect tree-ring samples of remnant wood from banks of the Ob River
- Identify the hydroclimatic signal in the tree-ring data
- Apply the tree-ring data to develop an extended time series of Ob River annual flows
